Swimming Recount
A few more schedule hours to go down to the pools. Last week class 3 attended swimming lesson at Glen Innes aquatic center. When the bell went class 3 ran to class. Mrs Clark opens the door and we got our bag and line back up outside. we were waiting for Mrs Clark to navigate us to the pools.
Mrs Clark waited in front of the door and gave us instructions what to do. She told us to quickly get change and have a shower. We quietly walked in and went to the changing room to get change. After I got change I ran out of the changing room and went to the cold shower I was looking like I was dancing. I ran out of the shower and went to the bench and waited patiently for the instructor to come. The first day we swam 1 length with a buddy to check what group we are in. I was in group 2. Group 2 was all the confidence people.
When I got in the pool I noticed the water was very shallow. I was not very confident in doing freestyles and back strokes. In the beginning I was nervous but I got the hang of it.

What happens when an aircraft breaks the sound barrier?
Mar 11, 2002.
What happens when an object breaks the sound barrier must begin with the description of sound as a wave. Anyone who has heard an echo (sound waves reflecting off a distant surface) or been far enough away from an event to see it first and then hear it, is familiar with the reasonably slow travel of sound waves. At sea level and temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius, sound waves travel at 345 meters per second. As the temperature decreases, the sound speed also decreases, so for a plane flying at 35,000 feet (10688 metres) where the temperature is around -55 degrees Celsius, the speed of sound is 295 meters per second.
When the sources of a sound is moving it can begin to catch up with the sound waves they emit. As the speed of the object increases to the speed or velocity of sound waves, these sound waves begin to pile up in front of the object. If the object has sufficient acceleration, it can burst through this barrier of sound waves and move ahead of the sound it is making. As the object outruns all the pressure and sound waves in front of it, it is heard on the ground as an explosion, or sonic boom.
At supersonic speeds (those greater than the speed of sound), there is no sound heard as an object approaches an observer because the object is traveling faster than the sound it produces. Only after the object has passed will the observer be able to hear the sound waves emitted from the object.
Aircraft wings create low-pressure regions. Under sonic flight conditions the lowered pressure condenses the water in the air, creating a vapour cloud. Just as the aircraft bursts through the sound barrier, the air is locally disturbed by the resulting shock wave and the condensation/vapour cloud disappears.
Explain how there can be slight variation in the speed of sound? The hot and cold temperature. If it is hot sound can travel faster and if the temperature is cold sound travel slower.
What is an echo? When sound bounce of something and it comes back to you.
What happens to the sound waves, when the object making the sound is moving? the object It is Vibrating and the sound waves travels through walls until it stops
Why is there no sound heard as an object approaches if it is going at supersonic speed? Because it is very fast and it goes faster than sound.
What does supersonic mean? Supersonic means Super fast
Why does a person travelling in a car with the horn sounding only hear one pitch whereas someone listening to the car drive past and hears the pitch change as they drive past? Because they are going pass the sound/horn.
What does decrease mean? The sun is getting low
Sufficient - You have had enough.
Emit - issue some books out.
Velocity - Velocity is speed in this case sound speed.
e.g.The of velocity sound is 235m per sec
Condense - Make something more concentrated
e.g. focusing on something more than anything else.
acceleration - I am increasing money after working a lot.

Where is Gambia and Panjem and Brikama, find a detailed map of Africa and label Gambia and the village, Panjem and Brikama.
For what reason to people sponsor children? So they can go to school, so they can eat and take care of himself.
Sponsoring a child is thought to be compared to a project, what is a project?
Put this word into a sentence of your own. A assignment or an individual enterprise that is planed to a particular aim.
How does Tim know that many families in Africa could not afford to send their children to school? He knows many gambians can’t afford to send to their children to school, so he decided to sponsor Malong Touray , a child in that country.
How did the author find his way to Panjem? When my New Zealand friend Tim was a child,he lived in The Gambia. He knows that many gambian can’t afford to send their children to school, so he decided to sponsor, Malong Touray, a child, in that country. I traveled across Africa
For what reason would it have been extremely difficult to find this town? Because he did not live there and he was new there. He was gonna sponsor them.
Why would the villages have been surprised and excited to see Andrew? Because Andrew was new and someone never been there.
Why did Andrew find it difficult to communicate with the villagers? Because he didn't speak Mandinka.
What language do the people of Gambia speak? People in Gambia Mandinka.
Research and find out how you say the following words and phrases.
Hello - na nga def
How are you? - jaam nga am
Goodbye - ba deenam
Yes/No - wau
Thank you - jai rruh jef
From looking at the images, what can we gather about the life that people in this town live?
How do you know this, what do the images tell us? They are less fortunate and they have a hard life. They can't afford to go school.
How do people collect and drink their water? They walk all the way to the villages well and collect the water from there. Then they drink it out of their hands.
What are some of Malong’s hobbies, how do they compare to hobbies that children in first world countries have? He loves to hunt into the forest with other boys, using dogs knifes and stick.
What do the boys use to hunt? using dogs knifes and stick.
What do they hunt? They catch rats and rabbits and sometimes monkey which they use as food for the dogs.
Do you think it would be difficult hunting using these materials? Yes because they don’t have a lot of good materials.
How many people in the village are sponsored? The whole village. Do you think this is a lot considering the population of the town? Yes
What do you think sponsorship money is used for? Food clothes and schools houses.
You need to go on to sites such as World Vision and other sites that relate to child sponsorship.
You need to find where the sponsorship money goes, and how much it costs to sponsor a child? It cost $1.50 per day.
Create a poster for World Vision or your make up your own company, trying to get people to sponsor a child in a third world country.
Your poster needs to look appealing to your audience, and make them want to sponsor a child.
Think about whether you can sponsor a child in New Zealand, for what reason is this not possible? I dont think you can if you live in New Zealand. You need to look at some of the differences between third world countries and New Zealand, what are the differences and for what reason can you not sponsor children here? New Zealand's government helps less fortunate people.

School Social
I was making a bulky mess in the wardrobe, looking for what option I had in my wardrobe to wear to the social. Time was flying and I was getting furious and nervous. I said to myself I need to go shower. I have to be out of the house in 30 minutes. I swiftly had a shower but I couldn't find my clothes. I got my phone and text my friend Vaifou (Wifi).
“Hey Wifi, do you have any clothes I could borrow for the social. I said.
“Yeh i'm gonna go pass your house, I can drop you off some clothes or maybe I can pick you up. Said Wifi.
“Sweet see you then” I said.
Our Theme for the social was character. From my bedroom window I recognize my friends dads old car. I could hear the loud engine sound in my room. I dashed outside to get my clothes from my friend and then I sprinted to my room and I quickly got changed and told mom, I am going to the social held at school with my friend.
It was great fun with my friends at the social. I had some money on, so I bought some fizzy drink. At 8:30 I went to the car park to see if my mum or dad was here. I was waiting with my friends. Dad drives in the car park and I opened the door at the same time I said bye to my friends. “How was it” said dad. “It was great” I said.
I was walking in to my house . It was dark and silent outside. I got in and sprinted to my room. I got changed into some warm clothes. It was chilly in my room. I got my laptop and jumped on the bed. I did some of my homework and tried falling asleep thinking of what will happen tomorrow.Tuesday, June 17, 2014

Straw oboe experimen
I want to find out if the straw can make the sound? I want to find out how loud it can be with a shorter straw? Longer straw should be able to make a stronger sound? I want to find out why it makes a sound?
I think its gonna be very easy and it will work. The shorter straw should make a louder sound. The longer the straw should have a weak sound because the straw is too long and we have to use more energy. I think by putting holes in the straw the sound should be
better.
1) First we have to flatten the straw.
3) Then you can try it out and see if it is loud.
4) If you want, you can make hole in the straw around the middle.
5) If you want you can add up a straw on the bottom putting one in the straw.
I ended up making one hole and on the first go it doesn't work. But if we keep trying it will work. My one was very average. When I had a longer straw it was harder to blow.
I thought it was a very nice project we did, because we got to learn lots of stuff about sound. The sound was very annoying as well. I think you should give it a try and it’s great to annoy people.
We learnt how sound travels through the straw. Another thing we learnt is how the pitch goes higher when your finger is removed from the hole.
Questions:
1. What is producing the sound? The air is producing sound from the straw.
2. What pitch did we get when all holes were closed, compared to when the holes were
open? We got a high pitch sound when the straw holes were open.
3. What does opening or closing a hole in the straw really mean in terms of vibrating an
air column? You are changing the pitch of the sound.
4. What happens to the pitch as you cut off pieces of the straw? The pitch went high Why? because there is more space for the air to get out.
